Upway is an online platform for reconditioned electric bikes. The company offers professionally reconditioned electric bikes at up to 60% less than the new price, and delivers the bike directly to your home within a few days. Upway was founded in July 2021 in Paris by Toussaint Wattinne and Stéphane Ficaja, two ex-Uber executives. Upway buys electric bikes from well-known brands such as Moustache, Cube, Haibike or Riese & Müller from professional and private customers, completely reconditions them in 20 steps in its own workshops in Paris and Berlin and then resells the electric bikes via its own online store. Buyers benefit from a 12-month warranty on frame, battery, motor and electronics. By reusing an existing product electric bike, cyclists also help to protect the environment, by saving on CO2 emissions and precious raw materials that would otherwise have been needed to produce a new bike. With Upway, the founders' vision is to make e-bikes more affordable and extend the life of each bike to make mobility more sustainable. Refurbished electric bikes are currently available in France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United States.

"We're at the beginning of a phenomenal wave of adoption of light electric mobility. When we created Upway, the idea was to be a player in the transition and continue to democratize this mode of travel. We realized that in the electric bike market we had, on the one hand, very expensive new products bikes, and on the other, a second-hand market with products bikes in very poor condition and a lack of confidence. Upway is here to offer an affordable, quality alternative, to make electric bikes more accessible to everyone."
Toussaint Wattinne, co-founder and CEO of Upway
According to a study conducted by Ipsos Digital in April 2023, the electric bike is becoming the French people's everyday ally.
Electrically-assisted bicycles are becoming an increasingly important part of the French urban and rural landscape, against a backdrop of tense economic and ecological conditions. More than just a means of getting around, the electric bike is naturally part of an environmental approach, but it's not just that: it's becoming an ally of physical and psychological well-being for the French.
